Fifteenth (15) 5k - Ravenswood Run
Chicago, IL
around 50 degrees
Time: 30:48 (second best!); average pace 9:55
Place: Overall 1720/3349; women 712/1880; age grade 49.07% (what does this mean?)
Despite the gloomy weather, this was a great race! And wouldn't ya know it Karen and I neglected to get a photo of us!
My coworker was having a post race brunch and bloody Mary party afterwards so I had karen meet me at her house in North Center. The brisk walk over was a super warm up! No gear check needed, not port-potties to seek out; we were off to a great start!
I was wearing my new TomTom GPS watch. It didn't pick up a signal until nearly a mile in. I was done. It went back too REI the next day. When it did get going the pace was totally off. According to the watch I should have finished the race sub 30.
I was all the way to the left when I saw our mayor, Rham Emmanuel, on the right. I quickly zigged over to slap his hand. If he is supposed to be a runner, why didn't he run this race right in his won neighborhood?
This was a good race for me. I had energy all the way through. I didn't have to play mind games to keep myself going. I love 5ks at this point because they are only half of the distance I know I can go. At the two mile marker I am always thinking "sweet, so I've got like 10 more minutes of this and then Im done!"
I grabbed me water and post race free goodies and waiting with camera poised for Karen to cross the finish line. It started to drizzle so we headed back to Kelly's. Looking online later on at the race's Facebook page I see that we missed the free Ann Sathers treats and the massage tent. damn rain!
Ah but even better goodies awaited us at Kelly's...once we got there. We got so caught up in gabbing we totally passed her street. Brunch was a make your own bloody Mary bar with beef jerky straws! and real food as well.
Some times all I want to do after a race is crash and sometimes I have insane energy. This day I was caught in the middle. I wanted to check out the open house at the Frank Lloyd Wright Bach House North of me in Rogers park so I quickly showered and rode over on my bike. Then I rode over to see Marcee at Vintage garage somewhere around Foster and Broadway. By the rime I was done there it was too late to nap. Big mistake. I felt like ass the next day.
