Color Run Dallas - 2013

April 6, 2013
Fifth 5k - Color Run
Dallas, TX
Time 1:07 I walked with friends and fooled around in all the colorific fun along the way so, like, whatever!

My preparation for this loosely termed "race" began with a wild goose chase for Chicago White Sox socks. Apparently they do not exist in plain white. I needed white because this was a color run and you cant exactly have colorific fun in black socks.

Here we are above before the run in our crisp clean white shirts. I am a little bummed.....they said you could spray the shirt with vinegar and take a hot iron to it to preserve the colors. I washed the shirt today. almost all the color had washed off. They lie.

I found a pair of Old School (that what the packaging said) tube socks in the clearance section at Sports Authority for under five buckaroos. Then I bought 2 iron-on Sox patches off eBay and ironed them onto some black felt I got from Michaels and pinned my dealios on the socks. Don't tell me I'm not gunna wear white White Sox socks!!!

The race was around the grounds of Fair Park in Dallas. This means no streets, not many onlookers and confusion on my part. There must have been 19 countdowns. And no because they were releasing people in heats, at least I think so. I mean, there was a reported 11,000 participants.
We stood between two start lines, listened to a countdown and moved  3 feet forward. Then to pacify us they threw shirts and wrist bands into the crowd. Let's get this thing going already! I didn't want to start this thing ragging mad...and that's exactly where I was headed.
So right out the gate Rick takes off running. I thought we were going to walk...so awesome! I would have been more awesome if I didn't get 4 hours sleep the night before and was still purging the alcohol out.

We ran for a short while and then thankfully stopped. It was quiet and things weren't as I imagined. I had this idea of constant music, a constant stream of color being thrown and a lot more hootin' and hollerin'.

I'm not sure how far in but I saw a glimpse of one of the color stations. Yellow! You pass through a yellow arch, suddenly hear the music and get blasted with powdered yellow. It was over the top exhilarating! I wanted to get more dirty. I wanted to get hit with every color known to man.
After yellow came orange. Before pink we hit the water station and a sad little purple station which consisted of one dude with a tank of liquid purple on his back. We lined up for a literal twirl before the purple dude.

By the time blue came around people were getting goofy. At each color station there is a big tarp that lines the color blasting area. People were rolling around in the tarp.

I had an absolute blast! The only thing I regret was putting my phone in a baggie. I wanted to protect my phone from the color but I didn't get very many usable shots. When I saw the finish line I started to run. I wanted to cross it running. I got ahead of every and thought I'd get their photos as they crossed over. It was so sunny I couldn't see that I had switched the direct of the camera. I ended up with 10 photos of my squinty face.

We all changed clothes after the event but managed to still look a colorful mess. Not really giving a crap we went to a local diner for breakfast. Boy did we get the stares!

I'm still trying to figure out how the color penetrated my shoes, thick socks and onto my toes....
